Mystery 96pt McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021

96 POINTS OF MCLAREN VALE SHIRAZ GLORY
DARK, OPULENT & VELVET SMOOTH

FIVE STARS 96/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit - "A powerful rendition... Opulent and richly layered"
95/100 | Ray Jordan - "Immense concentration and intensity"
94/100 | Ken Gargett - "A return to the glory days... Excellent length and fine tannins"

Big, bold and beautifully made, this is classic McLaren Vale Shiraz dialled up to eleven. If you love top-shelf shiraz, this is the kind of bottle you’ll want in multiples - one for tonight, a few for next winter, and plenty more for the cellar.

We have tasted this wine and, as the reviews below attest, it is a boldly weighted and concentrated release that gives you everything that the world loves about elite McLaren Vale Shiraz. No expense has been spared in the vineyards or winery to create this wine. It's very generous by McLaren Vale standards and comes to you in pristine condition with lots of 'old school'  weight and swagger. This wine will reward careful cellaring for up to 15 years.

Please note: The brand has had very little exposure in the New Zealand market - so please don't be surprised if you don't recognise the label when you purchase it. We unequivocally guarantee the special nature of the value on offer here and are proud to bring you wine of this calibre at this exclusive price.

Clearly, with an opportunity of this magnitude, stocks are strictly limited, and we strongly suggest you secure your personal requirements before telling colleagues, family and friends.

This wine is being sold to you as a 'Mystery deal' to protect the producer's investment in this, their flagship brand. When you order, the wine will be delivered to you under its normal label; all will be revealed when it lands at your door.

Given the contractual nature of this offer we still can't tell you too much about it online. Click HERE to send a quick email to us, and we can tell you so much more on a 'one to one' basis. (That email address will only be monitored during normal business hours.)

Tasting Notes

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "A powerful rendition of the variety, showing blackberry, cured meat, cedar, rich floral, and cakespice aromas on the nose. The palate delivers impressive weight and richness, splendidly supported by a fleshy texture and a wealth of polished tannins. Opulent and richly layered with a sustained, structured finish. At its best: now to 2040." 96pts.

Ray Jordan writes "Comes from 60-year-old McLaren Vale vines in this excellent year. Smooth, so smooth. Yet immense concentration and intensity is driving a powerful wine. The nose reveals a combination of vanillin oak and dark cherry with spicy plum and a dollop of dark chocolate. The palate is seamlessly woven with prune-like fruits, spices and lightly cedary character. Has a slightly chewy finish. Drink by: 2025-2039." 95pts.

Ken Gargett writes "The team look to this wine as a return to the old ways, the "glory days", which should cue everyone into a rousing rendition of Springsteen. Failing that, simply enjoying a cracking glass of red from this brilliant vintage should be enough. Crimson/magenta in hue, the nose gives us notes of chocolate, vanilla, mocha, coffee beans, spices, bay leaves and licorice. There are still lashings of oak, quality oak and well handled, which will possibly divide the crowd a little, but it is a delicious wine and will be adored by many. The palate sees the emergence of bright, black cherry flavours. Excellent length, fine tannins and juicy acidity tie up a most pleasing package. It will continue to impress for the next eight to ten years." 94pts.
