FIVE STARS 98/100 & TOP RANK | Bob Campbell MW
Another world class wine from winemaker Warren Gibson and the Trinity team and how stunning is this release.
Homage is always a bold example from the Gimblett Gravels but the 2019 adds layers of wonderfully luscious, luxurious mid palate weight into the mix. This is certainly a contender for the Hawke's Bay red wine of the year. Bravo.
The winery writes "The 2019 Homage displays the complexity, sophistication and refined power that are the hallmarks of the marque. The characteristics of Gimblett Gravels Syrah shine through in a captivating, complex bouquet. Ripe blackberries, black liquorice, Chinese five-spice and crushed minerals are complimented by an exotic perfume of red fruits and florals. Toasty/cedary oak sits discretely in the background. The wine is intense and concentrated in the mouth with fine-grained tannins providing a powerful, yet silky texture. Balanced acidity and supportive oak ensure the wine remains vibrant, focused, and supple on a palate distinguished by exceptional length of flavour and a lingering spicy finish."
Bob Campbell MW writes "A deep-tinted, fine-grained wine with cassis, black doris plum, black pepper, dark chocolate, coffee, wood-smoke and oriental spice aromas. A complex wine with a wonderful texture and lingering finish. Delicious now but shows promising cellaring potential. 77% from Gimblett Gravels with the balance from a hillside vineyard neighbouring the Gimblett Gravels. Fermented with 1% viognier."
