91/100 | Cameron Douglas MS
This is a softly approachable style - with the stonefruits you'd expect from Hawke's Bay - but possessing more elegance and outright friendliness than most. Light to medium bodied, it shows a brisk acidity, and is nicely balanced and quite 'precise' for a wine in this price band. Ageing on less has imparted a creamy oatmeal texture and subtle richness to the finish.
Good value here in the range that just gets better and better.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Bright, fresh, youthful and ripe with a core variety scents from grapefruit to peach, apple to vanilla, some nut and light-weight oak layers showcasing a touch of baking spice and lees. Dry with a youthful squeeze precedes flavours of apples and citrus, vanilla and nut with lees and peach finish."
The winery writes "Typical, fresh aromatics of quality Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay are evident on the nose including ripe stone fruit, citrus, and grapefruit. These are complemented on the palate by a creamy richness, hints of roasted nuts and gunflint, and a mouthwatering finish. A delicious Chardonnay of richness and finesse that can enjoyed on its own or partnered with food. Try it with rich seafood dishes or roast chicken."
