4.5 STARS 90/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Wildsong is the exciting new range from winemaker Rod McDonald and the Te Awanga Estate team. The range focuses on finely crafted wines that are 'Grown with respect, made with heart and packed with attitude' and has been a smash hit overseas so we're thrilled to have the range in store.
This 2021 sauv blanc is textural and rich with vibrant fruit flavours and soft acidity. A long, linear finish makes a second glass mandatory. Quality all the way here.
NZ Wine Rater writes "Intense, attractive, expressive nose with bright aromas of lemongrass, golden delicious apple, and orange capsicum. Medium bodied, dry, textural, reasonably concentrated mid-palate with a taut acid structure and a clean finish.”
Sam Kim writes "Fresh and beautifully lifted, the bouquet shows green apple, nectarine, lemon/lime peel and olive notes, leading to a vibrant palate delivering excellent fruit intensity backed by bright acidity, finishing mouth-watering and lingering."
The winery writes "This is Hawke’s Bay in a glass. The nose is full of ripe nectarines and peaches with a lovely honey undertone. Intense in the mouth with honeysuckle, stone-fruit and cloves. A chalky texture and juicy acidity come through the palate and together complement the long, fine finish."
