Sons of Eden Marschall Barossa Shiraz 2022

93/100 | Ned Goodwin MW
92/100 | Erin Larkin

It's no surprise that Sons of Eden are making waves with these exciting new releases. The winery takes it name from winemakers Corey Ryan and Simon Cowham, who both learnt their trades in the vineyards and cellars of Eden Valley and this is showstopper shiraz from one of the hottest winemaking teams in the Barossa. They absolutely nail the modern Barossa style - bringing refinement and subtle textures into focus without losing the plush, opulent fruit weight that the Barossa has built its reputation on. Fruit is sourced from 20-80 year old vines and that heritage shows through loud and clear.

If you're a fan of premium Barossa Shiraz, this is joy in a glass. We are besotted with it. Get involved.

Tasting Notes

Ned Goodwin MW writes "I like this. Unexpectedly fresh shiraz, full-weighted, detailed and impeccably poised. Bravo. A hint of reduction on the nose sashays effortlessly to clove, star anise and dusty riffs on turmeric and curry powder, before violets, blue fruits and iodine play a more typically regional shiraz card. This is my favorite wine of the recent suite in terms of sheer drinkability. Younger vines, longer extraction and superior tannins to the rest, the result. Crunch, sass and power all in one."

Erin Larkin writes "The 2022 Marschall Shiraz is a juicy, briny, spicy little number, and it feels generally like a celebration of the season. Pretty, succulent red fruit is framed by a splay of spicy, fine tannins, and all the while, there is a savory vein of flavor that courses through the fruit, stitching it all together and making it a far more interesting drink than its price point would suggest."

The winery writes "Dense garnet in colour, with an alluring mix of red-licorice, spiced plum and white chocolate aromas. The palate is rich, rounded and intensely flavoured, finishing with a robust vitality. Delicious drinking upon release but will mature very well for the medium to longer term."
