Premium Waitaki Valley Chardonnay from Steve Smith MW - the man who drove the winemaking programme for Craggy Range for many years. Now producing wine under his own banner with American tech billionaire Brian Sheth, he is making some truly exciting variations on the classic New Zealand varietals and this is a complex example of Waitaki Valley Chardonnay.
Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, the palate is electric yet refined, beginning with a lively zing of lemon peel that gives way to a richer, more indulgent note of lemon meringue pie, underpinned by a baked biscuit texture that brings structure and a whisper of warmth. The wine's tension and drive are beautifully counterbalanced by its creamier mid-palate elements, showcasing both elegance and power.

The winery writes "Vibrant green gold, so bright almost crystal like. Complex aromas of meadow, clover honey, lucerne, yellow flowers alongside intense citrus peel and a hint of cashew. Energetic lemon peel and then a richer lemon meringue pie flavour and distinctive baked biscuit feel. Long, serious and quite dramatic."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "A distinctive and complex bouquet drawing attention to the idea of minerality then fruit with a limestone then floral quality, fresh white peach and a frame of citrus. Equally complex and delicious on the palate, taut, dry beginning with a palate squeeze from acidity and mineral then white fleshed fruits and grapefruit. Complex, intriguing and worth exploring more. Flinty with layers of soil and lees enhanced by oak and acidity."
