FIVE STARS 93 POINTS | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit.
We have long admired the work of winemaker Jason Stent and his Paritua vineyard team, who year after year punch out some of the very best (and best value) red wines from the Hawkes Bay region. Scarlet 2019 is a masterclass in affordable premium styled red wine. It is brimming with vibrant dark fruits with subtle oak and a long, balanced finish. If you're looking to spend around $20 on a bottle of Hawkes Bay red, you'll go a long way to do better than this.
Scarlet 2019 is a blend of Cabernet Franc (48%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%) and Merlot (19%).
The winery writes "Highly scented Black Doris plum, blackberry and black currant aroma’s with hints of baking spice, cedar and fine spicy oak. The palate shows dark fruits dominated by plum and blackberry with a rich full mid palate supported by firm, ripe tannins and a long, sumptuous finish. Subtle oak influence provides spicy notes and added structure. This wine will continue to age gracefully for several years. Ideal drinking from 2022 to 2028."
Sam Kim writes "Beautifully ripe and fragrant, the wine shows blackcurrant, dark plum, thyme, toasted nut and rich floral aromas. The palate delivers excellent weight and bright fruit intensity, wonderfully supported by fine texure and polished tannins. Flavoursome and highly enjoyable. A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot."
