Named after winemaker Dave Mackintosh's great grandmother, Annabella Mackenzie, Kenzie Wines is a celebration of contemporary winemaking. After fifteen years crafting acclaimed wines in Victoria’s Yarra Valley under the Arfion and Salo labels, Dave felt the pull of home, returning to Aotearoa to create distinctive, modern wines from the expressive soils of Hawke’s Bay.
Duet is a vibrant, modern take on red wine - light, fresh and designed to be enjoyed with a chill, yet carrying the depth and complexity of something far more serious. Crafted from 58% Bridge Pa Syrah and 42% Bridge Pa Merlot, it’s a seamless blend of character and drinkability. The Syrah component was 80% destemmed and 20% whole bunch fermented, bringing a subtle herbal lift, and the wine is unfined, unfiltered and full of honest expression. A brooding, earthy savouriness with hints of fresh herbs leads into layers of blackberry, dark cherry and pepper. The palate opens with a gentle smokiness before unfolding into notes of black plum, lavender and rosemary, all carried by a dry, crisp freshness, fine tannins and a graceful, subtle finish.

The winery writes "Intense colour belies the light techniques. A brooding earthy, savoury character with a touch of fresh herbs is followed by blackberry, dark cherry and pepper. A smokiness starts the palate, and black plum, lavender and rosemary take over. A dry, crisp and fresh red wine with a beautiful subtlety of flavour and fine tannin."
