Herringbone Syrah 2024

FIVE STARS 94/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit - "Structured and harmonious"

Karen and Troy, the couple behind Herringbone, took ownership of the vineyard in 2016, bringing together winemaking expertise and agricultural heritage. Karen studied Viticulture & Oenology at Lincoln University, while Troy's background spans both farming and FMCG account management. For years, their vineyard supplied premium fruit to some of New Zealand’s most acclaimed producers. But after nearly a decade of intimately learning the land’s rhythm and potential, they’ve shifted focus - growing grapes exclusively for their own handcrafted wines.

Selectively hand-harvested and matured in premium French oak, this wine reveals impressive depth and complexity. Aromas of floral blossom and ripe berry fruits intertwine with subtle hints of vanilla and warm spice, creating a layered and inviting bouquet. On the palate, it’s rich and refined, offering a harmonious balance of vibrant fruit, oak influence, and silky texture.

Tasting Notes

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "It's splendidly fruited and inviting on the nose, showing Black Doris plum, blueberry, rich floral, warm spice, and roasted nut aromas. The palate displays excellent weight and a plump mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by silky texture and beautifully integrated tannins. Structured and harmonious with a persistent, sturdy finish. From the Bridge Pa district."

The winery writes "Selectively hand harvested and matured in French Oak. The resulting wine is rich and complex with floral and berry notes and hints of vanilla and spice."
