Another absolute belter from the Mission Estate Reserve series - which has to be one of New Zealand's best value ranges in this price point. This is powerfully fruited, dark and broody wine with classic Cabernet leather and cigar complexities sitting over a palate that packs plenty of punch. Recommended.
Michael Cooper writes "The 2018 vintage (5 stars) is a great buy. Deeply coloured, with a fragrant bouquet, it is full-bodied and savoury, with generous blackcurrant, red berry and spice flavours, revealing excellent ripeness and density, oak complexity, good tannin backbone and a rich, harmonious finish.”
Sam Kim writes "Beautifully fruited and brightly expressed, the bouquet shows blackcurrant, sweet plum, thyme and toasted nut characters, leading to a succulent palate that's supple and lingering. The wine offers youthful charm and elegant complexity backed by fine-grained tannins, finishing long and delectable."
The winery writes "This was a superb vintage for Cabernet Sauvignon – one of the best in the last 10 years. The aromas show blackberry and cassis with violet notes and a spicy complexity having aged in top quality, fine grain French oak barrels. The tannins are ripe and fine giving the wine good structure. This structure will soften as the wine matures to take on a sweet savory quality after two to five years. We anticipate the aroma to develop more complex chocolate aromas as the tannins become silkier over the next five to 20 years."
