4.5 STARS 91/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
This is, without question, one of the best sub$20 Hawke's Bay Syrah buys we have come across in a very long time. Vinted as a side project by well known Marlborough based winemaker, Tim Adams, this supple, broody wine was produced from a small parcel of fruit from the famed Ohiti Road subregion. It is jam packed with savoury flavours in the plum and red fruit spectrum and that concentration flows through the palate to a long and persistent finish.
It is both truly delicious and absolutely fantastic value - an automatic case buy for anyone who enjoys quality Hawke's Bay Syrah and those canny buyers looking for an affordable option that is 100% dinner party worthy. Climb in.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Lovely dark fruited bouquet with accompanying spices, aromas of dark rapsberry and plums laced with some wood spices and earthy stone scents. Lovely textures on the palate with flavours that mirror the bouquet, dark peppery spices and smoky wood scents, clove and vanilla. Raspberry and black currant, baking spices and smoky wood. A lovely wine with a backbone of acidity and delicious mouthfeel. Well made with best drinking from late 2022 through 2028."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Pristine and elegantly perfumed, the wine shows Black Doris plum, blueberry, fragrant spice and hazelnut aromas on the nose. The palate displays succulent fruit flavours with plump mouthfeel, well supported by silky texture and beautifully integrated tannins. Harmonious and brightly expressed with a persistent juicy finish."
