This highly sought after single vineyard wine has been a star since its first release in 2006. Famously the most powerful wine in the typically understated Kumeu River portfolio, the 2020 Coddington shows layers of quite weighty stonefruit and citrus flavours with a touch on gun flint complexity adding interest and palate depth. Exceptional.
NZ Wine Rater writes "This wine has a really complex, gorgeously intense bouquet with overtones of lemon zest, grapefruit, burnt match, and wet stones with fine quality oak handling reminiscent of freshly baked brioche, vanilla, and brown spice. It has a lovely, generous texture with fine citrus flavours, salivating, salty acidity, and concentration that suggests it will age extremely well. Stylish, classy, a top draw New Zealand chardonnay."
The winery writes "The 2020 vintage is another outstanding vintage following on from the exception 2019. The single-vineyard Coddington wine is richly ripe in the yellow peach and apricot spectrum, with a background of toasted oak and caramelised hazelnut. It is the biggest style in our range, and satisfyingly rich as such, but also nicely balanced with its acidity."
