This is a lovely expression of savoury Martinborough wine; the first pinot from the Helio 'passion project' conceived by Clearview winemaker Matt Kirby, his wife Sarah (ex Felton Road) and filmmaker, Dave Nash. Gorgeously presented in wax sealed bottles and using high quality cork closures, this 2020 release shows layers of dark red fruits with plenty of tension and drive. Spice notes in the clove and anise spectrum complex the palate, and the finish is bright and long with supple tannins and good acidity. Smart wine here, people. We loved it.
The winery writes "Helio Pinot Noir, Martinborough - 2020. A tasty sage, herbal and savoury aroma with dark red rose petal, black fruit and ash. Lovely palate weight and bright acid, rose water, under ripe strawberry crunch and baked savoury goodness. A long finish, spiced with nutmeg and clove. Winter in a glass."
