17.5+/20 Raymond Chan
We loved this wine. Don't be fooled by this crazy price; a desire to move to the 2018 vintage has put this excellent 2017 Sauvignon into the market and this wine will impress anyone who loves premium styled Wairarapa Sauv Blanc. It's a richly weighted style with an ethereal texture and layers of tropical fruits. The acidity is dialed down from the Marlborough model and we applaud Gladstone for veering away from typically fresh and crisp, high acid Sauvignon. Seasoned oak has played a part here but it's influence is all in the palate weight and there is no obvious oak component to taste.

The winery writes "The cool season has enabled us to deliver a balanced elegant wine with good weight and finish. Semi-tropical fruit, stone fruit, lifted citrus and lime flower aromas combine with the aroma of lightly roasted cashew and a gentle floral perfume for a lovely, complex wine. The weighty and generous palate balances with elegant, subtle acidity for a beautiful lingering finish."
