This enticing blend of Hawke's Bay Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo and Malbec is another stellar effort from Elephant Hill. The 2021 is an immediately attractive wine with upfront juiciness and glossy, dark fruit characters that reveal layers of spice and complexity as the wine opens in the glass. In our view it's a significant step up from the previous vintages, showing a fuller and more concentrated palate with more grip and creamy acidity on the finish.
This lovely wine is already in superb form but will blossom over the coming 6 - 8 years should you chose to lay some down.

Tasting Notes
Vinted from a blend of 40% merlot, 36% syrah, 14% tempranillo, 8% malbec, 1% cabernet sauvignon and 1% cabernet franc.
The winery writes "A proprietary estate red blend sourced mainly from the warm, inland soils of Bridge Pa Triangle and Gimblett Gravels. Plummy Merlot and spicy Syrah dominant flavours. Generous, soft, red fruits with easing going drinkability."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Wonderfully fruited and elegantly complex, the bouquet shows blackcurrant, sweet cherry, cedar, thyme and warm spice aromas, leading to a gorgeously flavoursome palate offering succulent fruit intensity together with silky texture and fine-grained tannins. Supple and lingering with a delectable finish. A blend of merlot, syrah, tempranillo, malbec, cabernet sauvignon & cabernet franc."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Youthful and distinctively bouquet with scents of myriad red and black berry fruits, a gentle oak spice quality and a natural earthy clay mineral quality. On the palate a fruity, spicy and earthy blend with flavours that reflect the bouquet. Oak remains mild adding complexity, acidity is saline, vibrant and fresh with the main focus of this wine the core of fruit. Well made, dry and fresh with best drinking from 2023 through 2027."
