FIVE STARS 96/100 | Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
FIVE STARS 94/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Flagship, fine wine from one of our favourite Hawke's Bay producers. Dressed in the tartan of the Robertson family, this stunning Gimblett Gravels Merlot demonstrates the skill of local winemaking legend, Peter Robertson. With plush flavours of plum and blackcurrant, this concentrated merlot is gracefully structured. Drink now or cellar with confidence.
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "A beautifully styled Merlot, it's elegantly perfumed on the nose with Black Doris plum, thyme, toasted nut and subtle game notes, followed by a flavoursome palate that's succulent and fleshy. Elegantly structured by silky tannins, finishing wonderfully long and velvety. At its best: now to 2034."
The winery writes "This 2021 ‘Highland’ Merlot is a stunner. Generous in black plums, dried herbs and spice, cigar box and silky tannins. This wine reflects the quality grapes and French oak barrels used in the winemaking. Refined and harmoniously balanced, the 2021 ‘Highland’ Merlot will age gracefully for many years. It is only the eighth ‘Platinum’ label since 1989. The ‘Highland’ label is reserved for Merlot dominant wines of excellence. This label is even more special as it features the Robertson tartan."
