FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Zaria are a boutique Hawke's Bay producer with winemaker Bryce Edmonds at the helm. The majority of the fruit for their wines come off their Bridge Pa site, Lesley's Vineyard, and Bryce takes a minimal intervention approach to winemaking.
Their 2021 malbec rosé is a vibrant, zesty wine, with bright red berry notes and racy acidity. It's crisp, dry and absolutely delicious. Climb in.
The winery writes "Fresh, energetic, vibrant, dry – the bouquet offers wild strawberries, raspberries, red currants, and citrus zest with a touch of spice. Finely textured and mouth-watering on the palate, the freshly picked berry fruit flavours scream summer all day long. This is our favourite vintage so far – we hope it becomes yours too. Serve with watermelon, prosciutto and mozzarella salad."
Yvonne Lorkin writes "With bright, energetic, red apple and raspberry layers, cherry and zesty citrus characters and a long, vibrant, citrus-stacked finish, it just bursts with redcurrant and spice. Fresh and crunchy and punchy in all the right places, I really like this wine. A lot."
Sam Kim writes "Delightfully fruited and youthfully expressed, the bouquet shows raspberry, lemon zest, green apple and subtle spice notes, leading to a vibrant palate that's finely textured and lingering with racy acidity. Mouth-watering and crisp-dry."
