Yalumba Bush Vine Grenache is the boss's favourite sub$25 Barossa red - a wonderfully middleweight wine that is loaded with personality and soft, slurpy, easy drinking charm. Think of it like a cross between gutsy Central Otago Pinot Noir and lush Barossa Shiraz and you're on the right track.
It's a richly flavoured style but more in the savoury red fruit spectrum - so it provides a lovely counterpoint to the block busters the Barossa is best know for. If you're looking for a general purpose red that stands out from the pack but is a sure fire winner, this is one of the safest bets in the market.
The winery writes "The 2017 Old Bush Vine Grenache is saturated with aromas of red fruits, cherries and perfumed berries, with hints of stalk and cracked green peppercorns. The flavours are all open and airy with the crunch of red apple and pomegranate seed. This is richly textured, round and supple with a deft juiciness merging into long powdery tannins. Drink now through 2028."
