Named after the prime terra-rossa-based source vineyard acquired by Yalumba in 1993, this medium-bodied, juicy Cabernet Sauvignon has long enjoyed superstar status, and is widely held as a benchmark in refined South Australian Cabernet. Classic Cabernet leafy tobacco notes are dialed down and this wine is driven by primary dark fruits with some lovely anise and herbal complexities. Exemplary
The winery writes "Full depth with a red crimson hue. The bouquet is of medium to full intensity with bright berry and plum fruits with a seaspray tang that is typical of Yalumba The Menzies. The palate is full bodied and rich, opening with plush red fruits yielding a textured mid-palate and yielding to a lengthy finish. Enjoy with a pomegranate and fennel glazed rack of Limestone Coast lamb."
Raymond Chan writes "Full-bodied to taste, the palate has very good depth and intensity, with concentrated flavours of ripe blackcurrants and cassis with blackberries and soft herbal notes. This has a deep core with fine, grainy, ripe tannins providing plenty of structure and grip. The acidity lends freshness and balance. This has very good linearity and underlying power, and the wine carries to a rich, concentrated, softly lingering finish. This is an elegantly concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon with sweet blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with cassis and herbs on a grainy textured and structured palate with plenty of power and linearity. Match with roasted lamb and beef dishes over the next 8-10 years."
