PREMIUM CHARDONNAY SUPERDEAL
FIVE STARS 95/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
93 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS
This famous Reserve label has always been an excellent example of fine, barrel-fermented Hawke's Bay Chardonnay and this 2019 release has been further lees-aged for 10 months in French oak barriques to bring even more weight and texture to the party. A powerful nose of ripe peach, apricot and French oak promises much and the palate fulfils those flavours with buttery, creamy mouthfeel and more oak spice.
The 2019 is now entering its peak drinking window, and will continue to develop over the coming 3 years. It's easily our favourite wine in the Sileni portfolio and now excellent value with the Advintage Advantage.
The winery writes "Rich aromas of ripe stone fruits and hazelnuts. The palate is textured and full with pleasing layers of complexity. Fine acidity adds length and balance. Enjoy with a creamy pasta, seafood chowder or with smoked salmon.”
Sam Kim writes "Impressively complex and stylish, the wine shows ripe stone fruit, vanilla, cedary oak, popcorn and brioche characters on the nose. The concentrated palate displays excellent weight and depth, combined with expansive mouthfeel and plush texture, finishing superbly long and satisfying."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Bold and expressive bouquet with scents of ripe yellow fleshed stone fruits, baked apple and vanilla custard, toasty barrel spices, brazil nut and barrel toast. Complex and youthful. Lush, creamy, weighty, salivating and delicious with flavours of apricot and nectarine, apple and grapefruit then vanilla custard and barrel spices. Weighty, nutty, youthful and saitsfying."
