CYCLONE GABRIELLE RECOVERED STOCK - SUPPORT A BOUTIQUE HAWKE'S BAY PRODUCER
Petane Station sustained devastating damage to their home and vineyards as a result of Cyclone Gabrielle; now, more than ever, is a great time to support small producers in Hawke's Bay.
Petane Station are a seriously boutique producer based in Esk Valley, Hawke's Bay. Viticulturalist and winemaker Phil works with his graphic designer wife (and their two young children on hand as eager grape samplers) to produce lovingly crafted, small batch wines.
With rich and fragrant notes of lychee, citrus, rose petals and gingerbread, this Gewurz is as lush as they come. Softly textural on the palate but balanced by bright acidity, this delicious drop is a joy to drink by itself or paired with spicy Asian dishes.
* These bottles were label damaged during Cyclone Gabrielle, and there will be some rips, tears and peeling on the labels. The bottles have all been washed and thoroughly inspected, and are deemed safe for consumption as per the meticulous MPI requirements.
Yvonne Lorkin writes "With just 70 dozen made of this lychee-laden little lovely from out Esk Valley way, by the time I finish writing this review it’ll possibly all be gone! My individually numbered bottle (the gorgeous no. 915) poured a perfectly pale gold wine, bursting with baking spices, mango, rosewater and citrus. The acidity is perky and adds zest to the mouthfeel which is edged with pear strudel characters and at 14.5% alcohol, there’s a pleasant prickle on the finish. Beautifully balanced and lightly-styled, it’s quite possibly the most delicious thing to sip with Szechuan prawns."
The winery writes "This is a concentrated, multilayered Gewürztraminer, bright golden-yellow in colour with lemon-green hues. The nose is full and voluminous with delicate rose petals, violets, gingerbread and musk and the floral aroma grows with some glass swirl and aeration. The mouthfeel is soft and fine in texture. This is a gewürztraminer with drive and power, carrying to a strong, long and complex dry finish. Made for the serious and patient wine aficionado, this wine has potential for bottle aging 8+ year with careful cellaring."
