HANDS DOWN THE BEST EVER VINTAGE OF THIS CLASSIC HAWKES BAY CHARDONNAY.
AN OUTRAGEOUS BARGAIN WITH CELLAR POTENTIAL TO BURN.
FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
A perfect example of totally cellar worthy, well priced Chardonnay. The 2018 was 100% barrel fermented in French oak and shows good stonefruit palate weight and a lightly spiced oak influence. The palate is quite fresh with a subtle flinty complexity but the overall feel in the mouth is one of balance with plenty of flavour 'drive'.
Winemaker Hugh Crichton has outdone himself here and this wine completely defies this modest price point. It's clearly exceptional value with the Advintage Advantage and Chardonnay fans who are looking for a well priced option to lay down should cellar a case over the coming 5 years.
Sam Kim writes "Elegant, complex and inviting, the attractively expressed bouquet shows ripe stone fruit, nougat, roasted cashew and subtle flinty characters. The palate is beautifully weighted and rounded, delivering lovely fruit purity together with stylish oak undertones, backed by bright acidity, finishing long and satisfying."
The winery writes "The 2018 vintage has produced a classic Hawkes Bay Chardonnay. Beautifully fragrant citrus, floral and complex notes combine on a finely styled, textured and balanced palate. Food Matches: Fish, shellfish, poultry and fresh seasonal salads."
