VERY LIMITED STOCK | BIN END SUPERDEAL FROM THE MAN WHO PUT 2015 HAWKES BAY SYRAH ON THE WORLD STAGE.
Bob Campbell MW: "Stylish wine with good cellaring potential."
2015 was a very, very special vintage for celebrated Hawkes Bay winemaker Rod McDonald. Rod produces premium Syrah under a number of his own labels and two of these labels combined - Quarter Acre and Trademark - have picked up a massive 8 trophies at the London International Wine Challenge (the worlds largest and most influential wine awards) including Champion Syrah and the outright Trophy for Champion Red Wine of Show.
Two Gates Syrah sits at the same level as Quarter Acre in the Rod McDonald hierarchy and has been primarily sold through upper tier restaurants in our local market. (Quarter Acre was the wine awarded the IWC Trophy for Champion Red Wine of Show. ) Two Gates is another fantastic 2015 effort that is only now entering its ideal drinking window; a balanced and rounded wine with mouthfilling flavours of spiced plum and blueberry, soft tannins and lingering creamy acidity.
If you are a fan of premium Hawkes Bay Syrah and want to put a perfectly aged, gilt edged 2015 example on your table, this deal is about as good as it gets. Stock is very limited. Snooze and you'll lose.
The winery writes "This handcrafted wine is structured, complex and elegant. White pepper and thyme aromas lead into a palate that is full and rounded. Plum and blueberry flavours give way to an attractive savoury character. The tannins are fine and provide structure for this plump, attractive and mouth-filling wine."
Bob Campbell MW writes “Ripe, moderately dense Syrah with plum, dark berry, violet, liquorice, black pepper and spice/anise flavours. Supple, tangy wine with an assertive tannic backbone. Stylish wine with good cellaring potential."
