Tupari Pinot Noir 2014

(1)
Marlborough, New Zealand

WINERY CLEARANCE | bottle-aged 93pt pinot noir now well under half price!

93 POINTS | Bob Campbell MW

We're always on the lookout for satisfying pinot noir that we can sneak under the $15 barrier but so few make it past our rigorous tasting process. Tupari Pinot, on the other hand, had our team unanimously nodding their approval and we moved fast to secure all available stock.

This is excellent buying. Vinted in a classic Marlborough style, it carries delicious earthy / dark berry flavours framed with elegant, silky tannins. Savoury and now perfectly integrated, it is in superb form after a few years in the bottle but will easily go for a couple more years if you want to tuck some away. It's an excellent food wine; a perfect match for game meats or soft cheeses.

The real clincher here is our clearance pricing. Tupari 2014 is drinking well above our $14.99 case price, and offers sensational buying for discerning pinot fans.

Tasting Notes

The winery writes "It is the Tupari terroir that creates this unique wine. Warm daytime temperatures, a gentle north-facing slope, and clay bound gravels all build the flavours in our wine and result in an elegant Pinot Noir exhibiting earthiness and dark berry notes. This classic varietal expression is complemented by the Tupari style of elegance and multiple layers of flavours."

Aged pinot going for a song

The 5 stars is for price/quality ratio. Don't be fooled by the pale brick red look of the wine. It smells beautiful. There are some savoury notes there but it stills smells of freshly crushed berries - pretty good for 7 years old. It tastes surprisingly full bodied for such a pale looking wine. Would be perfect with venison or lamb.
