FIVE STARS 95/110 | Bob Campbell MW "A firmly-structured wine with obvious cellaring potential"
The Gimblett is traditionally made from a blend of grape varieties. The Cabernet family gives structure and fresh aromatics. Merlot gives richness and mid-palate weight with Malbec helping with complexity, density and colour. This is always a special wine - regarded by many enthusiasts as one of the the best value Gimblett Gravels blends available in the New Zealand market. Highly recommended.
Exotically perfumed aromatics that include ripe blackberries and red fruits plus hints of florals and dried herbs. There is superb clarity of flavours on the palate. Structurally the wine is complex, with textural tannins. This structure will allow the development of further complexity over the next 10 years. the 2016 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 43%, Cabernet Franc 41%, Merlot 14%, Malbec 2%
Bob Campbell MW writes "A blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and malbec. Dense, silken-textured wine with dark berry, cedar, liquorice, subtle floral and spicy oak flavours. A firmly-structured wine with obvious cellaring potential"
