FIVE STARS 95/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
93/100 'Excellent' | Cameron Douglas MS

Twenty years ago Tohu established the world's first Maori-owned wine business and have been producing award winning wines ever since. With a 95pt review under its belt, the Tohu Whenua Matua Pinot Noir 2019 is no exception. With rich notes of fruit and spice, this Nelson Pinot Noir is both complex and elegant. One not to be missed.

Tasting Notes

Cameron Douglas MS writes "A ripe and pure fruited bouquet with a core of pinosity from red berries to plum, raspberry to red and black currant. There’s also a core of crumbled stone mineral mixed with sweet vanilla and clove toasty barrel suggestion. Moderately firm and dry as the wine touches the palate, soon though the core of re d fruit flavours showcase the youthful vibrant energy and pinosity. Polished tannins and medium+ acid line are abundant, noticeable oak though not overdone. Taut, lengthy and well made."

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "It's richly fruited and seductively complex, showing dark berry, smoked game, dried mushroom, cedar and warm spice aromas. The palate delivers excellent concentration and depth, wonderfully complemented by plush mouthfeel and layers of polished tannins. Generous and opulent while remaining structured and harmonious."

The winery writes "Dark fruits and smokey, spicy French oak meets ripe plum, balanced smooth tannins and subtle earthy notes. A complex yet elegant Nelson Pinot Noir."
