GOLD MEDAL | NZIWS 2021
GOLD MEDAL | Aotearoa Regional Wine Awards 2022
SILVER MEDAL | Decanter World Wine Awards 2022
92 POINTS | Steve Bennett MW, NZ Wine Rater
Twenty years ago Tohu established the world's first Maori-owned wine business and have been producing award winning wines ever since. With two gold medals under its belt, the Whenua Awa Chardonnay 2018 is no exception. It's rich and complex with flavours in the stonefruit and citrus spectrum. A hint of nutty spice comes from fermentation in French oak. A stunning wine and an excellent option if you're looking for something a bit special.
Steve Bennett, NZ Wine Rater writes "Quite intense, homogeneous, complex nose with aromas of ripe brown pears, buttered popcorn, wheat biscuits, cinnamon and toasty oak. A rich, bold style with intensity, concentration and power, firm acidity, and noticeable alcohol on the finish. There's a lot of character and richness here but also freshness and restraint."
