4.5 STARS 18/20 | Raymond Chan
Over the past 20 years Ant McKenzie has crafted fantastic wines for some of the biggest names in New Zealand wine - Dry River, Framingham, Mud House, Te Awa and Spy Valley. Now, under his own banner, he has created a multi-tier range of wines with Theory and Practice range pitched as "contemporary wines with a creative edge" .
This is an impressive, powerfully packed Syrah. It's an immediately attractive style with upfront fruit characters that are balanced with fine tannins and lingering spice flavours. Highly recommended.
The winery writes "The palate is medium bodied with a beam of fresh acidity that draws the wine across the tongue and adds vibrancy. The savoury theme on the nose continues on the palate with an umami like flavours of beef stock and mushroom. The texture comes from softly extracted front palate fruit tannins. These are the best sort of tannins that are able to provide gentle structure without contributing hardness. "
