Theory and Practice Pinot Gris 2017

A HUGE FAVOURITE WITH THE ADVINTAGE FAITHFUL.

Over the past 20 years Ant McKenzie has crafted fantastic wines for some of the biggest names in New Zealand wine - Dry River, Framingham, Mud House, Te Awa and Spy Valley.

Now, under his own banner, he has created a multi-tier range of wines with Theory and Practice pitched as "contemporary wines with a creative edge". This wonderful Pinot Gris is a perfect expression of that mantra - a full on, very plush example with German oak adding complexity and palate breadth. It has up front sweetness matched with lovely acidity to freshen up the finish. This is lovely, interesting, delicious wine at a very affordable price. Bravo.

Bob Campbell, MW writes "a rich, almost oily-textured wine, with pronounced tropical fruit flavours. It’s perfectly balanced with just a hint of sweetness. "

Tasting Notes
Ant writes "Aromatic notes of yellow fruits that span the spectrum from plum to pineapple. There is also a lifted floral and citrus character which adds delicacy and fineness. Some background suggestions of brioche, from the Fuder, add extra interest. The palate is full bodied and rich with a very plush texture. Palate flavours of walnut, canned peach and milk chocolate all contribute complexity and weight. These layers of richness come mainly from perfectly ripened grapes, allowing for some residual sugar in the wine, the contribution of the new German oak Fuder and warm fermentation temperatures" .
