4.5 STARS | Michael Cooper
Brimming with spicy oak characters and tangy flavours of ripe citrus, this perfectly pitched oaked Sauvignon is drinking like a dream - crisp and fruitful in the mouth with the oak component adding complexity without dominating proceedings. Easy to love.
The winery writes " Grown and made with complexity in mind. Flinty oak and mineral notes lift tropical aromatics which give way to ripe lychee, melon and grapefruit. Spectrum of tropical to citrus to stonefruit — crammed full of interesting flavours, wrapped in lovely toasty oak and creamy lees underpinned by saline acidity."
Michael Cooper writes "Maturing very gracefully, the 2014 vintage (4.5Star), tasted in December 2017, was grown at Waipara, in North Canterbury, and fermented and lees-aged for 10 months in French oak casks. Light lemon/green, it is a distinctive wine, full-bodied and tightly structured, with vibrant, ripe, tropical fruit flavours, showing good complexity, a minerally streak and a long, dry finish. Drink during 2018."
