ORGANIC WINERY OF THE YEAR | NZ Organic Wine Awards
It's not often we see Waipara Syrah but we absolutely loved this release. Grown on a unique vineyard on a sun-soaked 45 degree slope, this is complex and full-bodied syrah with spicy notes and velvet smooth tannins. With a gold medal at the NZ organic wine awards and a couple of five star reviews, it's clear that we're not the only ones that think this is excellent wine either.
Sam Kim writes "It’s beautifully ripe and fragrant on the nose showing dark plum, sweet cherry, thyme, clove and roasted nut characters. The palate delivers beautifully rounded mouthfeel and silky texture, well supported by fine tannins, finishing long and soothing. Harmonious and balanced with fabulous charm and elegant complexity."
Candice Chow writes "Deep, ruby-black with some depth and transparency, lighter ruby-purple on edge. The nose is fragrantly full, nuances of dark herbs, floral and smoke entwined with blackberries, roasted meat and peppercorns. Full-bodied, blackberries and plums have a concentrated core, along with violet, thyme, black peppercorns; savoury nuances coated the palate, unfolding smoke meat and broody dark fruit. The mouthfeel is dense, woven by fine-grained, powdery tannin; savouriness broadens the palate and lengthens the finish, interweave lacy acidity brings a sustained, long finish. This is a rich palate Syrah with blackberries in the lead of a complexing, savoury profile and powdery tannin mouthfeel."
