Bob Campbell MW "An iconic brand meets a terrific vintage... elegance on a grand scale and one of the best vintages I’ve tasted"
Coleraine releases are always the most important event on the New Zealand wine calendar but the hype surrounding the extraordinary 2019 vintage has amplified interest to new heights. Having tasted this magnificent wine with Te Mata's Nick Buck, the 2019 is one of the greatest Coleraines ever released. Indeed, it may well go down as the greatest, and with a 100/100 score already in, it is clearly a wine for the ages; a must have vintage for serious collectors and investors alike.
2019 is a refined and thoroughly elegant Coleraine with dark fruits sitting over a fine Bordeaux -esque pencil lead character. It reminded our team of the 2018 and 2015 vintages - but the mid-palate detail, the near perfect acid / tannin balance and the sheer length on the finish set the 2019 on a higher pedestal. It is magnificent. Bravo.

Sam Kim writes "5 stars, 100 pts. Destined for a long life, this majestic offering shows cassis, dark plum, hint of tobacco, cedar and f loral aromas on the nose. The palate is packed with rich fruit intensity combined with layers of silky texture and complex f lavours, wonderfully supported by perfectly pitched chalky tannins, making it sturdy and structured with a seemingly endless finish. Flawless and spellbinding. A blend of 59% cabernet sauvignon, 37% merlot & 4% cabernet franc."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "97 pts. Complex and very sophistocated with a calm yet mysterious package or aromas: elegance and finesse, aromas of dark berries and varietal, ripe cabernet, some sweet tobacco, dark olive and barrel spices. Very harmonious already, but lots of youth and palate tension. Big tannins, ripe tannins and acidity to match. Delicious, young , vibrant."
Gary Walsh writes "97 pts. Cherry, ripe raspberry, dried roses and tobacco, cocoa and baking spices, a wee bit of menthol. It’s medium-bodied, taut and tightly strung with ‘mineral’ feeling cranberry acidity, sheets of slate-like tannin, superb waft of mouth-perfume, and a firm finish of impeccable length. A whole lot of what you might call ‘discreet structure’ this year, and feels particularly long-term. Oh Coleraine, you’ve done it again."
Bob Campbell MW writes "An iconic brand meets a terrific vintage. The result is a “must have” wine for collectors and investors. This is elegance on a grand scale and one of the best vintages I’ve tasted. Still youthful and quite closed (it was bottled on the day I tasted it) but with plushness and power."
