98/100 | Huon Hooke "The detail is outstanding, as is the intensity of the palate."
97/100 | Gary Walsh - The Wine Front "Magnificent"
The annual Coleraine release is always the most important event on the New Zealand wine calendar and Coleraine 2018 is another world class example of fine red winemaking that is sure to cement its position as one of the finest Coleraines released to date.
The 2018 is a great Coleraine that adopts a more plush and generous style reminiscent of the 2014 but with finer detail on the finish, better length and drive and perfectly handled acidity. It has such huge potential and the structure to make it cellar well over the coming 20 years. The blend this year is 52% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot, 15% cabernet franc.
Large format Coleraine wines are always sought after and in limited supply. Buy now to avoid disappointment.

Gary Walsh, Wine Front writes "Coleraine is, perhaps, my favourite red wine produced south of the equator. Exquisite perfume over purple silk sheets of dense tannin. Roll in them. Luxuriate in the quality on off er here, now, and for decades to come. Black fruit, raspberry coulis, sweet rolling tobacco, hazelnut, roses, nutmeg and paprika. It’s tightly packed, with a distinct ‘mineral’ feel to the acidity, concentrated but light on its feet. Dark chocolate and subtle leafy fragrance, long and powerful through the finish, with a deliciously adult walnut burr to close. Magnificent"
Huon Hooke, writes "Very deep, concentrated, bright purple/red colour. The bouquet is exquisite with a multitude of black fruits, blueberry, cassis, violet and cedar aromas, and much more besides. The detail is outstanding, as is the intensity of the palate. It’s very concentrated and powerful, firmly-structured and has tremendous persistence. The tannins are firm and abundant and will help guarantee a long life, but they are ripe and accessible and the wine is already approachable. (52% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot, 15% cabernet franc.)"
