95 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS "Excellent wine. Invest if you can."
FIVE STARS 98/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit " A stunning rendition of the variety."
The 2019 vintage is now widely recognised as the greatest Hawke's Bay vintage in living memory; a year where every varietal performed to its full potential. Tasting these 2019 wines at Te Mata was a joy, with Bullnose very clearly in the form of its life.
This is the warmest, most generous Bullnose we have tasted; a lavish and velvet soft syrah expression that bursts with a floral bouquet and floods the palate with spicy dark fruits and supple tannins. It's in irresistible form; immediately attractive and open for such a young wine. What a stunner. If this is where Te Mata see the future of Bullnose, we are 100% on board.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Now includes some Gimblett Gravels fruit. Looks at that colour!. Dark purple and pink rim. Rhone like bouquet with spices and meats, dark berries and oak follow. Fantastic bouquet overall. Warm and generous on the palate - flavours of dark berries and spices. Raspberry and barrel spices of vanilla and clove. Firm tannins and high acidity. Excellent wine. Invest if you can."
Sam Kim writes "The wine exhibits a great degree of elegance as well as opulence and gutsy substance. The sweetly fragrant bouquet shows Black Doris plum, violet, cedar and game characters with a touch of pepper spice. It’s weighty and sumptuous on the palate displaying awesome fruit purity and silky mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by loads of polished tannins. A stunning rendition of the variety."
