FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
4.5 STARS 17.5/20 | Raymond Chan
Out of this world Pinot Noir from one of the most exciting labels in New Zealand wine making. Some serious spice, tobacco layers entwined with red cherry and savoury notes. Something special is going on here.
One-off is the vehicle for celebrated winemaker Rod McDonald to make small parcels of interesting high quality wines. It's been a resounding success and has developed a fanatical fan base. The only catch is that every release is a One Off. When it's gone, it's gone. There'll never be another.
Sam Kim wrote "The wine combines delectable fruit notes with seductive savoury nuances, offering gorgeous complexity and persistency. The bouquet shows spiced cherry, dark plum, smoked wood, mushroom and dried herb aromas, leading to a beautifully rounded palate that is refined and silky. It is wonderfully harmonious and engaging with a lingering silky finish."
The winery writes "Out of this world spice of star anise, tobacco and sandalwood layer with dark cherry and rose petal on the nose, with an alignment of savoury earthy, herbal notes on the palate."
