Te Awanga's One Off range allows winemaker Rod McDonald to experiment with varietals and create wines that are a little bit different. The range has earned a huge following with the Advintage Faithful and the latest addition to the lineup will no doubt grow that following further.
Vinted from a blend of Hawke's Bay pinot gris (47%), viognier (45%) and gewurztraminer (8%), this is an exotic and perfumed wine with bright ginger, pear and stonefruit notes. It's plush and soft with a touch of chalkiness keeping things in check. Highly recommended but get in quick if you like the sound of it.
The winery writes "Sherbet and fresh apple on the nose, with undertones of rock melon and juicy fruit gum. Juicy and fresh on the palate with a steely minerality and flavours of hard stonefruit. Generous and textural up front with lovely florals and fresh melon combining with a long fresh acidity to finish."
NZ Wine Rater writes "Floral and perfumed with rose water, exotic tropical fruit and honeysuckle aromas along with white pepper, and sulphide influence. An elegant, dry, fresh and fruity style with excellent phenolics on the finish. A delicious drinking, ‘out of the ordinary’ white wine with definite pizzazz."
