EXTREMELY LIMITED!! | 78 bottles available to the entire New Zealand retail trade.
Fiano's spiritual home is in Southern Italy, but it's fast become the 'it' aromatic wine globally, and celebrated winemaker Te Awanga winemaker Rod McDonald was quick to pounce on a tiny parcel of Hawkes Bay fruit for his much admired One Off series. One off is all about small batch winemaking but this Fiano parcel filled a single barrel and, as such, represents one of the smallest varietal lots we have ever sold. After small allocations for cellar door and a couple of key restaurants were made, a mere 78 bottles were left for retail sale in New Zealand and Advintage was given all that stock to sell.
What you get is a complex, multi-faceted look at this varietal in the New Zealand context. This wine is dry with slippery mouthfeel from barrel fermentation and extended lees contact, but the core attraction remains the florals and delicate tropical fruits that Fiano is known for. This is food worthy wine with excellent ageing potential. Each bottle has been labouriously hand labelled with the striking FIANO livery. A must buy release for aromatic wine enthusiasts and collectors.
Given the size of this parcel the winery did not submit this exciting release for third party critique.
