FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Classic, generous Hawke's Bay Chardonnay from coastal producer Te Awanga Estate. There's a lot to love here; the palate is rich with citrus flavours, bright acidity and delicious layers of toasty oak complexity. It makes for a stunning glass of wine now but will cellar well for 5 - 10 years so don't be afraid to lay some down.
The winery writes "This is a classic, generous Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay – kicking off with aromas of grilled pineapple, lemon curd fresh bickies and toasted pine nuts ~ honest, all that! ~ and hazelnut, following with a rich palate of citrus and stone fruit, bright acidity and toasty oak complexity. Drink now or carefully cellar for up to ten years….if you can resist!"
Sam Kim writes "Beautifully restrained and elegantly expressed, showing nectarine, Gala apple, nougat and hazelnut characters with a touch of flinty overtone. The concentrated palate delivers excellent focus and drive, wonderfully enhanced by refined texture and wonderfully pitched acidity."
