Zinfandel is very rarely grown in NZ, with most of it grown in California or in Italy as Primitivo. However, Stonecroft have a few rows of it at their Roy's Hill vineyard and (The oldest zinfandel vines in NZ!) and create a small parcel of it each year. With a cooler climate here in NZ compared to Italy and California, this release is a more medium-bodied style but those red fruit flavours are still there in force.
The winery writes "Our Zinfandel is a medium bodied red with a fruity bouquet and flavours of raspberry, rhubarb and cranberry, together with coconut on the finish and soft tannins. The fruit is handpicked from just a few rows in our Roy’s Hill Vineyard."
