Patria Chica is a sensational new Spanish red blend, brought into NZ by legendary importer Steve Bennett MW. Vino de Pago wines are produced in a small, specific area of Spain and are awarded the "Denomination de Pago", the highest classification of Spanish wine and one that only 20 wineries currently hold.
Vinted from an interesting blend of tempranillo, garnacha, merlot and cabernet sauvignon, this is plush, luxurious wine that fills your mouth with dark berry flavours and ripe tannins. Time in French oak has imparted subtle spicy notes which are nicely balanced by fresh acidity. We were blown away when we tried this and stellar reviews from NZ critics have confirmed what we thought - this is excellent wine that will make Spanish red fans very happy campers.
Vinted from Tempranillo (60%), Garnacha (26%), Merlot (12%), Cabernet Sauvignon (2%).
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "This is immensely complex and engaging on the nose showing dark berry, smoked game, violet and cedar aromas, leading to a generously expressed palate delivering expansive mouthfeel and rich texture. Sophisticated and stylish with an impressively long elegant finish."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "A distinctive and enticing boquuet with aromas of place and time, plum and dark berries, strawberry, insense, cinnamon, whispers of aged meat and plenty of vanilla and barrel layers. Quite delicious on the palate - a wine of texture as much as it is flavour. An abundance of finely textured tannins weave between a mix of red berry and plum fruit flavours, medium acidity and a lengthy dry finish with plenty of complexity and charm."
James Suckling writes "Aromas of ripe blackberries, raspberries, plums, violets and cloves. Medium-to full-bodied with ripe tannins and fresh acidity. Juicy, ripe and fruity finish."
