GOLD MEDAL | Concours Des Grands Vins de France A Macon
This generous, mouthfilling Chardonnay from the South of France comes highly recommended.
For over a century Domaine de la Baume has been producing wines in the heart of Languedoc-Roussillon and that experience shows with this deliciously golden 2020 release. This is a lovely glass of wine; soft and rounded in the mouth with lovely creamy characters and some spicy oak influence rounding out the palate. It's a charmer; immediately enjoyable and flavour packed with soft acid structure and a refreshing hint of flinty minerality. If you're looking for French Chardonnay and targetting a sub$25 spend, you'll go along way before finding a better option that this.
This is attractively fruited and inviting on the nose showing peach, fig, nougat and subtle flinty notes, followed by a succulent palate that is beautifully rounded and creamy. It is flavoursome and very easy on the palate.
Sam Kim writes "Delightfully fruited and elegantly expressed, the wine shows peach, fig, nougat and oatmeal characters on the nose, followed by a beautifully rounded palate offering ripe fruit flavours combined with creamy texture and mellow acidity. Soothing and flowing to a lingering comforting finish."
