The winery writes "A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from the spectacular 2013 vintage in the Gimblett Gravels region of Hawkes Bay. The individual components were harvested as separate parcels and fermented using the traditional fine wine techniques of Bordeaux with warm fermentations, delestage, and extended maceration of the newly fermented wine on skins. The wine was matured in a mix of new and seasoned French and American oak barriques for 18 months before bottling. The 2013 FDR is a dark almost opaque purple hued red wine with distinctive aromas of ripe blackcurrants, dried herbs and a wonderful sense of warm gravel and sandalwood. The palate is rich dry, and full bodied with flavours of blackcurrants, blueberry, dark plum, cocoa dust and a strong feeling of warm earth and stones. Long fine and dry. Will cellar for up to 15 years from vintage and is even more delicious with red meat dishes served simple and savoury."
