FIVE STARS 94/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit - "Splendidly structured and study with a persistent engaging finish."
Shed 530 Estate was hit hard by Cyclone Gabrielle, with the historic site closed for nearly a year as the team undertook the massive job of rebuilding. Thanks to sheer grit and determination, the cellar door reopened in December 2024, and this wine stands as a beautiful reminder of what resilience and hard work can achieve.
The Shed 530 Reserve is a bold Merlot Malbec Cabernet blend with loads of depth and character. The nose is complex with aromas of dried boysenberry, earthy truffle and roasted hazelnuts, plus a savoury hit that’s straight out of the forest floor – think Porcini mushrooms in the best way. On the palate, it’s rich and fleshy with powerful dark berry fruit and silky tannins that wrap everything up in a velvety finish.

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "It's gorgeously composed and beautifully expressed on the nose showing blackcurrant, dried herb, cedar, game and dried flower aromas, leading to a wonderfully flavoursome palate displaying fleshy texture and fine chalky tannins. Splendidly structured and sturdy with a persistent engaging finish."
The winery writes "The aroma is complex with dried boysenberry, truffles and hazelnut. The earthy nature of a Porcini mushroom is also evident. The palate is fleshy and powerful with velvety tannins that help sustain flavours revealing more dark berries."
