Fruit from the famous Riflemans Vineyard is used for Wine Thief Chardonnay. With hand-picked fruit, French Oak treatment and careful blending of the best barrels, Wine Thief is consistently a satisfying, richly weighted wine from this prestigious Hawke's Bay producer.
Sam Kim writes "A beautifully styled chardonnay offering gorgeous fruit richness together with refined oak infusion. Aromas of nectarine, rockmelon, mandarin, vanilla and brioche lead to a concentrated palate that is brilliantly focused and textured. The wine is instantly appealing, although it should evolve gracefully over the next few years."
Raymond Chan wrote "Bright, light golden-yellow colour with some depth, paler on rim. The nose is full and broad with deep and densely packed aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits melded with layers of creamy barrel-ferment elements and nutty oak, along with firm, flinty lees and reductive mineral complexities. Medium-full bodied, the flavours of citrus, yellow stonefruits and tropical fruits are rich and succulent and harmoniously entwined with creamy barrel-ferment notes, and nutty, toasty oak, and layers of flinty lees and mineral detail. The palate is powerfully presented, but rounded in texture with integrated acidity adding to the breadth. The wine leads to a fulsome, rich and long lingering finish of nuts, toast and flint. This is a fulsome, rich and powerfully succulent Chardonnay with layers of toasty, nutty and flinty complexities."
