Bob Campbell MW writes "Tasted as a barrel sample this wine is very much ""work in progress"" and is expected to be bottled in five months' time. Elegant and powerful Chardonnay with a strong emphasis of citrus/grapefruit, white peach and chalky mineral flavours supported by brioche, bread crust and hazelnut characters from oak fermentation and maturation with extended yeast lees contact. The texture is ethereal. Very classy Chardonnay with obvious cellaring potential although, like many great wines from top vintages, it is able to be appreciated now. I'd love to taste this wine alongside the truly excellent 2013 vintage. I suspect that the 2014 is even better."
Jane Skilton MW writes " 96/100. Year on year, Rifleman's is one of NZ's supreme Chardonnays, and the 2014 is an absolute peach. The pre-release sample tested this time last year promised much and during the intervening 12 months, the wine has gained depth and weight, though not at the expense of subtlety. A confident, restrained wine that has elegance and intensity and finishes with tremendous length. From an outstanding vintage it is almost approachable now, though really demands another 5+ years in the cellar to show at its best.
