FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
We are huge fans of the Rockburn team and their generous take on the classic Central Otago varietals. This plush Gris from the consistently good Devil's Staircase (drink early ) range is in fine form in 2019 - with weighty off dry flavours and good texture. Recommended.
Vegetarian and Vegan friendly.
The winery writes "Inspired by the winding road leading from Queenstown to Kingston along the shores of Lake Wakatipu and sourced from Rockburn’s Central Otago vineyards, the Devil’s Staircase Pinot Gris takes the willing down into the realm of decadence and Bacchanalian delights. Here, everything is pleasure spiced up with a bit of naughty. The unrelenting Central Otago environment tortures the vines whose twisted limbs produce a wine worthy of absolution; honeydew nectar and lush fruits, sinfully succulent and devilishly good."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "It's elegantly fruited and engaging on the nose showing white flesh nectarine, fresh pear, apple and floral characters with a touch of flinty note. The palate is finely textured and persistent with bright fruit flavours together with vibrant acidity, finishing long and attractively savoury."
