THE BEST $20 ITALIAN BLENDED RED WE HAVE SOLD IN YEARS | Mac- Advintage owner.
The expensive premium weight, reverse taper bottles are a clue that something special is going on here and this multi-regional, multi-varietal blend took our breath away when we evaluated it. Plush and generous, it is very full bodied for Italian red wine with soft rounded fruit characters and wonderfully supple mouthfeel. It is absolutely delicious; another powerhouse example of modern Italian winemaking from the excellent Geografico cooperative. We are unsure of the exact blend but suspect that Primitivo and Nero d'Avola play dominant roles given the weight and presence of this wine.
This exciting red is not labelled with a specified vintage but this parcel is fresh from the importer and is the current Geografico release. It comes with our highest recommendation. Put a bottle on the table and watch everyone hustle for a second glass.
This unique wine is a blend of 4 varieties from four different areas in Italy: Apulia, Sicily, Abruzzo and Trentino. The result is a strong, dark red wine with an intense aroma with notes of ripe cherries, candied plums, coffee and tobacco as well as a strong taste with a rich, round mouth feel. Primitivo's advantage gives a pleasant, modern wine style. Long, dense finish. 20% of the wine matured for 12 months in new French oak barrels, giving the wine a delicate tannin structure that is well balanced with ripe fruit notes.
