95 POINTS | Cameron Douglas MS
This is the first ever vintage of Mount Brown Grand Reserve Chardonnay and it's a stunning release from this excellent North Canterbury producer. They only produced 150 dozen so we're stoked to have picked up an allocation of this exciting wine.
They selected the best fruit from their chardonnay vines and it went through full malolactic fermentation before extended ageing in French oak. It's full-bodied and generous, with vibrant tropical fruit notes and creamy acidity on the finish. A delicious wine and one the Mount Brown team can be very proud of.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Fantastic bouquet with aromas of gun metal and leesy spices, roasted nut and roasted stone fruits and baking spices. Complex, youthful and very inviting. On the palate, full-bodied, youthful, fresh, complex and full of flavour and texture. Fruit and wood flavours reflect the bouquet accentuated with chalky tannins, medium+ acidity and toasty nut complexity."
The winery writes "A warm summer, malolactic fermentation and barrel ageing has produced a full-bodied wine with ripe tropical flavours and a creamy finish."
