Produced by the famous Pegasus Bay winery – Waipara’s top producer – this is big, boldly styled Chardonnay with plenty going on in the glass. Barrel fermentation has added complexity while malolactic ferment has added creaminess and extra texture. Some subtle gunflint characters add some complexity but the overall effect is balanced and harmonious. It is clear from the first glass that this delicious wine fights well above its weight. Tremendous value.
Sam Kim writes "It's complex and engaging on the nose showing apricot, lemon peel, baked fig, almond and subtle flinty characters. The palate displays excellent weight and juicy fruit flavours backed by bright acidity, finishing long and attractive."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Aromas of toasty barrel with vanilla and brazil nut, roasted stone fruits and baked apple, citrus and brown baking spices. Full-bodied, creamy textured, youthful and delicious. A lovely example with just enough power and intensity, acidity and core of fruits to present a balanced and well made with flavours of oak and lees, baking spices and toasty wood on the finish."
Michael Cooper writes "Offering good value, this barrel-fermented, lees-aged wine is full-bodied, with generous, ripe stonefruit flavours, woven with fresh acidity, and well-integrated oak adding complexity."
The winery writes "It is bright lemon in colour, with an unfolding bouquet full of grapefruit and citrus blossom, giving way to crushed almonds, flint and smoky suggestions. A hint of struck match adds to the allure. The wine is succulent and rounded on the palate, with refreshing acidity that adds vibrancy and balance, prolonging the finish."
