FANTASTIC VALUE FOR BOLD CHARDONNAY FANS.
Glenda Neil, vinote.com | “Year after year this wine always delivers far more than its price suggests.”
4.5 STARS 91/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Produced by the famous Pegasus Bay winery – Waipara’s top producer – this is big, boldly styled Chardonnay with plenty going on in the glass. Barrel fermentation has added complexity while malolactic ferment has added creaminess and extra texture. Some subtle gunflint characters add some complexity but the overall effect is balanced and harmonious. It is clear from the first glass that this delicious wine fights well above its weight. Tremendous value.
Sam Kim writes "Beautifully fruited and inviting, the wine shows apricot, apple, fig and vanilla characters on the nose with a hint of gun smoke. It's succulent and rounded on the palate with excellent weight and intensity, backed by creamy mouthfeel and bright acidity, finishing long and complex."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Bold and expressive aromas of yellow peach and red apple, plenty of toasty wood, burnt butter, vanilla, wood shavings and nutty oak suggestions. Equally expressive and intense on the palate with flavours that directly reflect the nose. Medium acidity, plenty of toasty brown spices of wood. Quite weighty, balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2021."
The winery writes "It is lemon/straw in colour, with delicate aromas of white peach and citrus, together with some underlying savoury notes of toast and hazelnut. There is also a hint of struck match, adding complexity and a flinty minerality. The wine has satisfying concentration on the palate, however remains elegant and focussed, with refreshing acidity and a lingering finish."
